The Investiture of Carmen Herrero as Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of Granada will take place on the coming 23rd May. It is without doubt a cause for great joy for all of us who have had the chance to collaborate with her, because this honour rightly recognises her admirable work and personal and professional commitment.
Carmen has made many contributions to economic analysis as a researcher, from her first work on extensions to input-output models, to her arrival in the area of welfare economics, distributive problems, via the economics of health and of education. But she also shines due to her capacity, with demanding and resolute criteria, to get collective projects underway and carry them forward – a capacity many of us have benefited from. Her leadership in the creation of the Department of Foundations of Economic Analysis at the University of Alicante, the setting up of the International Doctoral Programme Q.E.D. (which has now been running for 25 years), the management of the I3 Programme, or her work as adviser to the National Evaluation and Forecast Agency (ANEP), are some of her contributions to the institutionalization of all of our professional activity.
We have decided that it would be nice to complement the ceremonial act of investiture as Doctor Honoris Causa with the celebration of a small workshop in Granada, around the research themes that have kept Carmen so busy. As these have been quite varied, we thought that there would be space for all those who would like to make a contribution. The workshop is planned for the afternoon of 22nd May and the morning of 24th May. Those who would like to collaborate by making a presentation, please let us know before 16th April, so that we can draw up a programme. All who wish to attend without presenting are also welcome.
